Real Madrid has experienced a season, nothing less than sensational under Zinadine Zidane. If we keep aside the loss in El Clasico and the tragic elimination from the Champions League, they have won almost everything. They are drawn against their city rivals Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals. Atletico has been a major threat to Real in the previous seasons, but Real just manages to go past them. Although, Real doesn’t have the chance to win a treble this season, they are pretty much the most favourite team to lift the Champions League trophy.
Here are 7 reasons why they are favourites to win the Champions League:-
#1 Loads of experience in the Champions League:-
This is the seventh consecutive time they have reached the semi-final of the Champions League. Real Madrid have won the Champions League 11 times and are in the semi-finals of the 12th. They have dominated the European competition in the last decade or so. They have the big players and experience needed to flourish at the top level. This experience will come in handy in big matches. This will certainly give them the edge over other teams.
#2 Zidane at the helm:-
Zinadine Zidane had an absolutely glorious career. He has got loads of experience and knowledge, which he can pass on to the Real Madrid players. This will be of huge importance and will help the players to perform at the highest level. In his first season with Madrid, he has been a tactical genius and has shattered oppositions. He has shuffled his players well and has helped his players to gain confidence. No wonder, they have had such success this season.
#3 Ronaldo is peaking at the right time:-
Ronaldo has not scored as many goals as he would have liked, in this season. His performance has been below par, given the humongous standards he has set for himself. However, in the match against Bayern Munich, he scored 5 goals over both the legs. It goes to show the ability of the man to peak at the right time. He came to rescue his team, when his team needed the most. So, he might not be in the best of his forms, he is still a big danger to the oppositions.
#4 James is in thunderous form:-
James Rodriguez has been sidelined this season by Zidane. Minutes have been hard to come by for him this season. However, the Columbian star has worked hard and grabbed the few chances he has got with both hands. In the El Clasico, he scored a tremendous goal to put his team in level, after coming off the bench. In the last league match against Deportivo, he again showed his class by opening the scoring for Real Madrid and ending with a brace.
#5 On a streak in the European games:-
The Galacticos are unbeaten in this edition of the Champions League. They have been in top form in the European matches and have not let teams get the better of themselves. Not only they are unbeaten, they have played some fantastic football. This goes to show the strength of Real Madrid team. They have not shown complacency in any of their games and have given their best in each of the games.
#6 Varane returns to the team:-
Rafael Varane is returning to the team after an injury. The centre-back is one of the best defenders in the world right now. The return of Varane would come as a huge boost for the team. Varane along with Ramos, make a formidable defence that cannot be breached easily. With this kind of defence it will be very difficult for the teams to score against the Galacticos.
#7 Isco in form of his life:-
Isco is playing the game of his life, which is evident from the number of times he has been on the scoring sheet. With the absence of Bale due to an injury, Isco is the likely to replace him. Isco, in a recent interview confirmed that his confidence is very high and he is playing the football of his life. Isco combined with Kroos and Modric, make one of the best midfields in the world. So, the presence of Isco will be a danger sign for the opposition.
