Amazon is finding its way almost everywhere. The logistics and cloud computing giant entered into homes also through its smart speaker Echo and now, a streaming service Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime boasts a lot of collection of movies and TV shows spanning Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood and so on.
The collection of the streaming service is growing on daily with more exclusives and classics making their way into this video streaming service. But a small hiccup appeared on its journey to prominence.
HBO Removing Its Shows
Amazon Prime is known for its affordable yet attractive library. The service which comes under the umbrella of Amazon Prime that offers premium services to the users is now a smash hit. With a 30-day free trial for new users, the service is witnessing many subscriptions thanks to its low cost and high quantity.
An offer price of 500 INR for a yearly subscription instead of 1000 INR after the trial is so much worth it while its competitor Netflix has a hefty starting price of around 500 INR for a monthly subscription. The service boasts media from various channels.
But, seems like Amazon has to lose some content due to the decision of HBO for improving its own service. The content shared with Amazon is following the deal signed by HBO to share its classic shows like Sopranos and The Wire including the broadcast of other shows after 3 years of their completion.
Some of the big HBO shows on Amazon Prime Video are (Some shows are not available in all regions)
- The Sopranos
- Band of Brothers
- True Blood
- John Adams
- Eastbound and Down
- The Wire
Though most of the shows mentioned above are unavailable in India, the whole decision can likely affect future HBO shows on Amazon. The deal which expires in 2018 will forbid Amazon to use any of its shows including the old ones which may be a dealbreaker for classic TV shows fans.
Will It Affect Amazon Prime Video?
This decision will likely be a small issue for Amazon Prime Video as the shows don't feature the present hits like Game of Thrones, Westworld and instead feature the classic shows. Also, the volume of HBO shows on Amazon is very less that it might not do any damage to the service.
With Amazon Originals viewers increasing at a greater rate, Prime Video will survive this hiccup. The Amazon Originals TV shows like The Grand Tour, Transparent, American Gods, The Man in High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle etc receiving a critical response and its movies Salesman winning Oscar for Best Foreign Film and Manchester by the Sea winning two Oscars, the video streaming service is on fire.
Amazon Prime due to its affordability and variety is finding its way to people hearts and the result is the increasing number of subscriptions to Amazon Prime. Even though HBO content is a good addition to Amazon Prime, the originals will likely be enough for the subscribed users. What do you want to see on Amazon Prime?
