Royal Challenger Bangalore, are known to be one of the most destructive teams in the IPL. They are a very strong unit on paper. They have players, who on their day can finish the match single-handedly. However, matches are not won by numbers or on paper. They might have done exceedingly well in the past, but this is altogether a different ball game now. They are currently on the last spot in the IPL points table and certainly deserve the spot. They literally have to win all the matches from now on to ensure a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament. So, here are the 5 things which the men in red can do improve their situation
1. Get Kedar Jadhav to bat up the order
Kedar Jhadav has been by far the best batsman of RCB in their horrifying season. He has been hitting the ball well coming in at number 5. Mandeep Singh has not been performing well and has looked out of sorts. Kedar Jadhav could come up the order instead of Mandeep Singh. This way, Jadhav will get more balls to play and get his eye set. Mandeep did play down the order for RCB last year. So, there would not be any major problem, if he comes down to bat.
2. Replace Mandeep Singh with Sachin Baby
Mandeep Singh has been looking out of touch, so it will fair enough to drop him. This way, he can get some time off, work on his batting for good and return to a much better form. Sachin Baby had an excellent last season with RCB. He played some excellent innings down the order when RCB needed it the most. Baby has earned his place in the playing XI and must be included in it. He might change the fortunes of the team.
3. Make more use of Binny
Stuart Binny is a bits-and-pieces cricketer. He is a medium pacer and is quite handy with the bat. However this season, there hasn’t been much for him to do. He bowls 1-2 overs and then is taken off. He has not done much with the bat. In a team, all 11 players count. His performances haven’t been good enough to keep him in the squad. Hence, if Binny is playing in the squad he must be utilized properly.
4. Make AB bat at 3 or make him open
AB de Villiers is certainly one of the most destructive batsmen in the world. In the last match, he came in to bat at 4. He bats at 3 or opens when he is playing for his country. Kohli should look to make him bat at 3 or let him open the innings with Gayle. It would be destructive combo at the top and Kohli can bat 3. If not open, then certainly he must bat at number 3. It would enable him to play more balls and would not put pressure of early wickets on him.
5. Kohli needs to make his presence felt
This was the same position of RCB even last year, and then they won all their matches to qualify for the knockouts. It is not compulsory that every year same thing will happen, but this team is capable of doing it. They had a weak bowling attack last year, but this year their bowling is doing good and their batting is the concern. Virat Kohli has to score and look to bat through the innings so that other destructive players can hit from the other end like he did last year. He needs to instill the fire, the team had last year if they want to turn their season around. Kohli must define the role of every batsman and must ensure that things are carried out as planned.
Kohli is an able leader, there’s certainly no doubt about it. Now is the time, he needs to step-up and get his team in the grove if they want to qualify for the knockouts. RCB has the huge fan following, they would not want to disappoint their followers. There are still many matches left for them to mark their territory.
